In truth like they say it always takes a spark to start a fire (or forgetting the toast) and so it was that like with so many other times i can recall it's a great piece of music that's lit the flame under me at this ungodly hour of the day.. and set the kitchen fire alarm off.
I'm a bit of a vinyl junkie. I love the old stuff but I love the new too and like most musos im pretty religious about listening to as much new stuff as i reasonably can. My tastes are pretty eclectic but generally i'm a sucker for a good groove. I mean the kind of groove that makes your head snap & your shoulders go rubber. That's generally the feel of what you'll find me writing about here. Sorry i cant be more specific but since you're here looking at this in the first place chances are you'll read between the lines easy enough.
It was three nights ago, square eyed from a long day working at my pc, I came across the sublime sound of Julio Bashmore while profile hopping on myspace. Clicking each track in sequence on the player just got better & better. No mixed emotions, no unavoidable disappointment. It was pretty clear cut to me.. this boy got soul!
A google-second later i'd found a bunch of his tracks up on the curbcrawlers blog and i knew suddenly there was a God.
'I make an awkward mix of house, disco and dubstep' it says on his myspace, and it shows, although 'awkward' shows just how good he doesn't know he is yet. His beats have all the style & maturity of deep house, the groove of disco & the easy flow of dubstep rolled into one. All this for a youngun just starting out. Apparently he's got an ep out soon on Claude Von Stroke's Dirtybird label so grab these free tracks while you can!
